The Easy Way to Add a Web-Based User Interface for Your Test System

Web accessibility is more important than ever, as people across an enterprise require remote access to different types of data from their monitoring, control, or automated test systems. Traditionally, reviewing information outside of a test machine required creating and installing individual data-viewing utilities on multiple machines, or hiring a web programmer to create a mobile data application. But now there is an easier way.

The new NI LabVIEW NXG Web Module, an add-on for the latest version of LabVIEW, offers WebVIs so developers can easily create web-based user interfaces (UIs) without prior knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. WebVIs are created directly in the LabVIEW NXG development environment using the familiar elements of panel and diagram, wiring, and dataflow.

The LabVIEW NXG Web Module expands the LabVIEW systems engineering software to enable the creation of engineering UIs that run in any modern web browser without plug-ins or installers.

As a long-term NI Alliance Partner with a team of certified LabVIEW experts, G Systems jumped right in testing out the latest version of LabVIEW and leveraging key new features and add-ons for client projects.

In one example, G Systems created an automated test system, which uses a database to store information about the creation of test articles, test parameters, and test results. Several interfaces to the database were needed to support test management by different functional roles in the test process. G Systems used WebVIs create a web interface that provided remote access of all these interfaces.

The major components of the system and the data flow between them are illustrated here:

This web interface allows test managers to enter test article information, quality managers to adjust test limits, and production managers to check production yield – all remotely from their computer, tablet, or even mobile phone.
